Boscomare? Pietrabruna?), i Paponi, che nei secoli centrali del Medioevo (secoli XIV-XV) presero possesso di un poggio incuneato nel cuore della vallata, dove fondare un insediamento fortificato. \u00c8 l\u2019epoca della definizione dei confini giuridico-amministrativi del territorio e della creazione di una serie di \u201c<i>villae novae<\/i>\u201d che, come il borgo orientale di San Lorenzo al Mare (1252) e la \u201cCosta dei Raineri\u201d (secoli XIII-XIV), erano destinate a sorvegliare i borghi dei feudi o comuni rivali. Risalgono al XVII e al XVIII secolo, infatti, il progressivo abbandono dei primitivi edifici di culto interni al centro storico (come l\u2019anonimo oratorio quattro-cinquecentesco di via Carducci 4) e la costruzione o, meglio, la ricostruzione della chiesa parrocchiale dei Santi Cosma e Damiano (1720-1752 circa) e, a lato, dell\u2019oratorio confraternitale della Santissima Annunciazione (ultimo quarto del sec. XVII).
